South Kolan postal arrangements - 1911

Bundaberg Mail and Burnett Advertiser (Qld.), Thursday 19 October 1911, page 3

South Kolan postal arrangements

At a largely attended meeting of the South Kolan Canegrowers and Farmers Association on Tuesday night, discussion took place on the postal facilities in the district which were considered very unsatisfactory. The present system is for the State school children to take tho letters and papers home with them from school, or alternatively for parents to call for them. Members thought this system quite antiquated for a place so closely settled, and it was decided to write to the member for Capricornia and ask for his assistance in persuading the Postmaster General to have the mail delivered on horseback four days a week. Telephonic communication was also discussed, and a resolution was passed to ask the postmaster-General to establish a public telephone at the police station. It was pointed out that the district was quite isolated, and in the event of on urgent call to town, the only method of getting into touch was either to rely on the Bingera private telephone or drive into town.
